PFA Heat Shrink Tubing Sleeves for Semi-conductor Anti-UV and High Temperature Resistance
Product Overview
PFA Heat Shrink Tube is a heat-activated fluoropolymer sleeve designed to conform around components, connections, wires, terminals, tubing or other assemblies when heated. Compared with general-purpose heat shrink materials, PFA is selected when chemical resistance, thermal performance, cleanliness and fluoropolymer properties are important.
For demanding process environments, the key value of PFA heat shrink tubing is not simply shrinkage. The recovered sleeve forms a continuous protective layer while retaining the characteristic chemical resistance and high-temperature capability associated with PFA. This makes it suitable for applications where contamination control, aggressive chemicals or elevated operating temperatures can limit conventional heat-shrink materials.
Use the dimensional tables below for initial size selection. Confirm shrink ratio, recovery temperature and operating limits against the approved specification for the required PFA grade and construction.
Key Features
High-purity fluoropolymer material for demanding process environments; Excellent resistance to many aggressive chemicals and process media; Heat-shrinkable construction for conformal protection around irregular assemblies; Low surface energy and smooth surface for easier cleaning and reduced adhesion; Strong electrical insulation performance for wire, cable and component protection; High-temperature capability compared with conventional polymer heat-shrink materials; Good transparency is possible with suitable PFA grades, supporting visual inspection; Suitable for custom dimensions and application-specific OEM production.
Why Choose PFA Heat Shrink Tubing
PFA heat shrink tubing is intended for applications where the protective sleeve itself must withstand a demanding environment. A conventional polyolefin sleeve may provide economical insulation, but it may not offer the required chemical resistance or temperature capability. PFA provides a fluoropolymer-based alternative for more severe service.
The selection should be based on the complete assembly rather than on the tube diameter alone. Installation diameter, recovered diameter, wall thickness, shrink ratio, temperature exposure, chemical environment, electrical requirements and installation method all influence the correct construction.
Product Construction
The product is manufactured from PFA fluoropolymer in a heat-shrinkable tubular construction. The tube is supplied in an expanded state and contracts toward its designed recovered dimensions when exposed to the specified heating conditions.
Base material: PFA fluoropolymer; Form: expanded heat-shrinkable tube / sleeve; Surface: smooth fluoropolymer surface; Standard appearance: natural/translucent to transparent depending on grade and wall thickness; Supply form: straight cut lengths or continuous lengths subject to product design; Construction can be tailored for dimensional, wall-thickness and installation requirements.

PFA heat shrink tubing is available in the same dimensional specifications as our FEP heat shrink tubing. Use the expanded ID, recovered ID and recovered wall thickness below to select the required size. All diameter and wall dimensions are in mm.
Expanded ID mm Recovered ID mm Recovered wall mm Standard length m ≥3.8 ≤2.7 0.2 ± 0.03 1 ≥4.5 ≤3.3 0.2 ± 0.03 1 ≥5.5 ≤4.3 0.2 ± 0.03 1 ≥7.0 ≤5.1 0.2 ± 0.03 1 ≥7.9 ≤6.0 0.2 ± 0.03 1 ≥10.6 ≤7.4 0.3 ± 0.03 1 ≥12.5 ≤8.8 0.3 ± 0.05 1 ≥14.5 ≤10.7 0.3 ± 0.05 1 ≥19 ≤12.8 0.4 ± 0.05 1 ≥21 ≤16.5 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥24 ≤18.5 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥26 ≤19.5 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥30 ≤21.5 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥82 ≤24 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥91 ≤64 0.5 ± 0.05 1 ≥106 ≤82 0.6 ± 0.05 1 ≥118 ≤96 0.6 ± 0.05 1 ≥136 ≤103 0.6 ± 0.05 1 ≥156 ≤125 0.6 ± 0.05 1 Expanded ID is the minimum inner diameter before shrinkage; recovered ID is the maximum inner diameter after shrinkage. Wall thickness is specified after recovery. Standard packaging length is 1 m.
The ≥82 mm expanded ID / ≤24 mm recovered ID entry is retained from the shared specification table and requires confirmation before ordering. Do not infer a universal shrink ratio from the listed dimensions.
The shared sizes do not establish identical material performance or recovery conditions for FEP and PFA. Confirm the PFA grade, recovery instructions, dimensional acceptance limits and application requirements with the quotation.
Additional PFA Size Options
The following recovered ID and wall thickness combinations are additional size examples. Specify the expanded ID, recovery requirements and required length when requesting a quotation.
Recovered ID mm Wall thickness mm 1.6 0.15 3.6 0.1 8 0.3 16 0.25 30 0.35 130 0.5 180 0.55 200 0.6 Other dimensions, lengths and tolerances can be evaluated to suit drawings or samples. Stock availability and production lead time are confirmed at quotation.
Pressure and temperature limits depend on the exact PFA grade, construction, dimensions, installation and service conditions. Confirm the requirements for the selected product.
Shrink Ratio and Dimensional Selection
The most important sizing principle is to evaluate both the expanded and recovered dimensions. The expanded inside diameter must be large enough to pass over the component during installation, while the recovered inside diameter must provide the required fit after heating.
Expanded ID: larger than the maximum installation diameter, with suitable installation clearance; Recovered ID: compatible with the finished assembly diameter; Wall thickness: selected according to insulation, protection, mechanical and thermal requirements; Shrink ratio: confirm against the approved product datasheet rather than assuming one ratio for the whole PFA range; Length: account for assembly geometry, cut tolerance and axial movement during recovery; For irregular parts, provide a drawing or sample so the recovered fit can be evaluated.
High Purity and Process Cleanliness
For semiconductor, analytical, chemical and other controlled environments, PFA is often chosen because of its strong chemical resistance and fluoropolymer cleanliness characteristics. The heat-shrink format extends these benefits to protective sleeves around components and connections.
Cleanliness requirements should be specified separately. If the application requires controlled particulate, extractables, trace-metal, ionic or other contamination limits, the customer should identify the required standard and the supplier should confirm the exact material grade, processing controls and documentation.
Chemical Resistance
PFA provides broad resistance to many acids, bases, solvents and aggressive process chemicals. This is particularly valuable when the sleeve is exposed to the surrounding process environment or when it is used to protect a sensitive connection from chemical attack.
Chemical compatibility is application-specific. Temperature, concentration, exposure time, mechanical stress and permeation can change material performance. For critical service, compatibility should be confirmed for the actual chemical and operating conditions.
Electrical Insulation
PFA is an electrically insulating fluoropolymer and can be used as a protective sleeve for wires, terminals, splices and electrical components. The heat-shrink construction allows the material to conform around the assembly and provide a continuous insulating barrier.
Wire and cable insulation reinforcement; Terminal and connector protection; Splice and joint insulation; Protection of sensitive electrical components; High-temperature electrical isolation where conventional shrink materials are unsuitable.
Temperature Performance
PFA is selected for high-temperature environments, but heat-shrink installation temperature and service temperature are different parameters. The recovery process must be performed within the approved processing window, while the finished assembly must remain within the continuous and short-term temperature limits of the specific product.
Recovery temperature: confirm from the exact product specification; Continuous operating temperature: confirm from the exact PFA grade and construction; Short-term exposure: evaluate separately where thermal excursions occur; Mechanical load at elevated temperature: consider when the sleeve carries or restrains a component; Chemical exposure at elevated temperature: verify compatibility under the actual process conditions.

How to Select the Right PFA Tube
Selection Step What to Define 1. Identify the Medium Chemical, solvent, water, gas, reagent, process fluid or other conveyed medium. 2. Define Purity Requirements Determine whether standard industrial, clean, high-purity or application-specific material control is required. 3. Define Temperature Specify minimum, normal and maximum operating temperature, including short-term peaks. 4. Define Pressure Provide working pressure, peak pressure, pressure cycles and pulsation if applicable. 5. Specify Dimensions ID, OD and wall thickness determine flow, fit, mechanical behavior and pressure capability. 6. Check Transparency Needs If operators need to visually monitor flow, bubbles or contamination, transparent PFA may be advantageous. 7. Check Flexibility / Routing Consider bend radius, installation path, movement and whether a different construction is required. 8. Confirm Compliance State FDA, RoHS, REACH, USP Class VI or customer-specific requirements where applicable. 9. Define Packaging Specify coil length, straight-cut length, cleanliness, protective packaging, labeling and quantity. Temperature & Pressure Considerations
PFA tubing should not be selected from temperature or pressure alone. A small-bore thick-wall tube and a large-diameter thin-wall tube can have very different mechanical behavior even when both use the same PFA material.
- Use the actual operating temperature, not only room-temperature data, when evaluating pressure capability.
- Confirm working pressure, peak pressure, pressure pulses and repeated thermal cycling.
- Consider fittings, bend radius, installation stress and unsupported spans.
- For higher-pressure service, request the pressure capability for the exact PFA tube size and construction.
- For critical systems, confirm the final specification using the current technical datasheet or quotation.
PFA vs. PTFE vs. FEP
Material selection should follow the application rather than a generic ranking. The following comparison is intended to help website visitors understand the typical positioning of the three fluoropolymer tube families.
Property PFA PTFE FEP Chemical Resistance Excellent Excellent Excellent High Purity Potential Excellent Excellent; grade-dependent Very good; grade-dependent Transparency Excellent Generally limited / translucent Excellent Melt Processability Yes No conventional melt processing Yes Low Friction / Low Adhesion Excellent Excellent Excellent High-Temperature Service Excellent; application-dependent Very broad; application-dependent High; generally below PTFE/PFA extremes Typical Selection High-purity, transparent and demanding chemical fluid systems Broad chemical/thermal service, insulation and low-friction applications Transparent chemical tubing where a balance of performance and processability is desired Practical rule: choose PFA when purity, transparency and demanding chemical/thermal service are central requirements; choose PTFE when broad performance, low friction and cost efficiency are more important; choose FEP when transparency and melt-processable fluoropolymer tubing are desired with a different performance balance.
