Choosing fluoropolymer tubing starts with an operating specification. Material name, diameter and price alone do not describe the product a project needs. The useful question is: which material, dimensions, connection and inspection requirements will work together in this application?

Start with the actual operating conditions

Record the fluid or gas, concentration, normal and peak temperatures, working pressure, pressure surges and any vacuum conditions. Add the installation route, whether the tube moves in service, the connection type and the required cleanliness. If several chemicals are used, list cleaning and flushing fluids as well as the process medium.

A semiconductor construction project can contain several very different systems. A request saying only “for a semiconductor factory” does not establish a tube grade, a cleanliness limit or a connection specification. Define the requirements for the particular line.

Compare materials without assuming interchangeability

State dimensions in an unambiguous order

Write both ID and OD and identify the units. For a concentric circular tube, nominal wall thickness is (OD − ID) ÷ 2. These arithmetic examples illustrate why “6 mm tubing” is an incomplete description.

These examples are not stock confirmations or pressure ratings. Add tolerances, length per piece or coil, total quantity and any ovality requirement. Where a fitting seals against the OD, the allowable OD variation matters as well as the nominal size. Do not substitute a rounded metric size for an inch size without checking the connection.

Treat pressure routing and connections as one decision

Ask for the permitted working pressure at the actual operating temperature for the chosen construction. A burst-test result and a continuous working-pressure rating are different specifications. If the installation involves vacuum, repeated flexing or tight bends, include those conditions in the inquiry.

If the project requires reinforcement, review PTFE stainless steel braided hose as a separate construction. Its tube, braid, fittings and assembly requirements must be assessed together. Reinforcement does not make an unspecified assembly suitable for every high-pressure service.
