PEI Engineering Plastic
High-Performance PEI Sheets, Rods, Profiles & Precision Machined Parts
PEI, or Polyetherimide, is a high-performance amorphous engineering thermoplastic designed for demanding applications requiring a combination of high-temperature stability, mechanical strength, dimensional accuracy, electrical insulation, chemical resistance and flame resistance.
Yozonetech supplies PEI engineering plastic in sheets, rods, profiles, semi-finished materials and precision machined components, with material options including PEI-Resin, PEI-ESD and PEI-GF30.
PEI is particularly suitable for components that must maintain stable dimensions and mechanical performance under elevated temperatures. Its low water absorption, hydrolysis resistance, electrical insulation, arc resistance and radiation resistance also make it valuable in electrical engineering, semiconductor equipment, aerospace, automotive, medical, food-processing and other specialized applications.
PEI Material Overview
PEI is an amorphous high-performance engineering plastic whose molecular structure provides a combination of thermal stability, mechanical strength, chemical resistance and electrical properties.
According to the supplied PEI technical brochure, PEI has a glass transition temperature of up to 217°C and a heat deflection temperature of up to 195°C. Its long-term operating temperature in air is specified at approximately 180°C.
These characteristics allow PEI components to maintain stable performance in high-temperature environments where dimensional accuracy, mechanical strength and electrical reliability are important.
PEI also offers good resistance to hydrolysis and can withstand repeated high-pressure steam sterilization. Combined with low water absorption and good dimensional stability, this makes PEI suitable for applications where moisture, temperature changes or sterilization cycles may affect conventional plastics.
Key Advantages of PEI
High-Temperature Stability: PEI can operate continuously at temperatures of approximately 180°C in air, according to the supplied technical material. Its high glass transition temperature and heat deflection temperature allow PEI components to maintain their shape and mechanical performance under elevated-temperature conditions.
Excellent Dimensional Stability: PEI has very good dimensional stability, with relatively small dimensional changes during manufacturing and service. This is valuable for precision mechanical components, semiconductor fixtures, electronic test fixtures, positioning plates and IC sockets.
High Mechanical Strength and Rigidity: PEI provides high strength and stiffness across a broad temperature range. PEI-GF30 can be considered when increased stiffness and dimensional stability are required.
Good Hydrolysis Resistance: PEI provides good resistance to hydrolysis and is suitable for applications involving moisture or repeated steam exposure.
Electrical Insulation & Arc Resistance: PEI has excellent electrical insulation characteristics and good arc resistance, making it suitable for electrical insulation components, high-temperature terminals, IC sockets and electronic fixtures.
Flame Resistance: PEI has inherent low flammability and flame-resistant characteristics, supporting use in electrical, electronic, automotive and aerospace applications.
Chemische Beständigkeit: PEI provides good resistance to a range of organic solvents, acids and alkaline chemicals. Actual compatibility should be evaluated against the specific chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure time.
Radiation Resistance: PEI offers strong resistance to high-energy radiation, including Gamma radiation and X-rays.
Physiological Inertness: The supplied PEI material information identifies physiological inertness and suitability for selected food-contact applications.
